Proportional Representation system

What is Proportional Representation System?

The Proportional Representation System allocates parliamentary seats fairly based on the percentage of votes received, ensuring that every youth vote carries an accurate representative value.

Why does PBMy use the Proportional Representation System?

The Proportional Representation System is used in PBMy to ensure fairer and more inclusive representation, allowing various youth groups to be actively involved in the formation of national policies.

Advantages of Proportional Representation System

  1. Fairer representation
  2. Provides opportunities and space for smaller parties
  3. Reduces the dominance of a single party
  4. Increases voter participation
  5. Prevents political consensus

Party List System

Party List System is an electoral method in which voters cast their votes for a political party, and seats are allocated proportionally to each party based on the votes received.

Vote for Party

Voters vote for parties, not individual candidates

Proportional Allocation

Seats are allocated according to the proportion of votes received

Candidate List

Parties fill the seats using their candidate lists

PBMy uses Close Party List System

Close Party List

  • Voters only choose party
  • Seat allocation begins with the top candidates on the list according to the prescribed quota.
  • Candidates are selected based on their order in the list. If a party wins two seats, the selected candidates will be numbers 1 and 2.

Under the Hare Quota formula, seats won belong to the PBMy party. If a PBMy Member of Parliament loses eligibility or is disqualified, the party must nominate a replacement for approval by the Board of Governance (LTU).
