Parlimen Belia Malaysia was first introduced in 2015 and is a programme organised by the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) under the administration of the National Youth and Sports Department (JBSN). This programme has become a more inclusive platform for young people who are interested in expressing their views and proposals from a youth perspective. To date, the Malaysian Youth Parliament programme has strengthened and empowered the role of youth in contributing towards a more progressive democratic transformation.
The implementation of this programme has generally succeeded as a platform for young people to voice their opinions; however, it has had limited impact on youth representation within political institutions. From 2015 to 2024, a total of 526 youths were selected to participate in the programme. Nevertheless, only five Youth Parliament Members have contested in state elections and been successfully elected as State Legislative Assembly Members, while at the level of the Parliament of Malaysia, there is still no representation among Youth Parliament alumni.
